The magazine "Wirtschaftsjournalist:in" has selected two graduates of the Institute of Journalism (IJ) as emerging talents. Laura Städtler and Timo Halbe are among the “Top 30 bis 30” (engl. "top 30 under 30").

Timo Halbe is an editor for investments at Finanztip. He studied Economic Policy Journalism at the Institute of Journalism until 2020 and is currently completing his Master’s degree in Economics and Journalism. His integrated traineeship took him to Stiftung Warentest. Asked about his most valuable learning experience, he told Wirtschaftsjournalist:in: “In the teaching newsroom during my studies and also during my traineeship, I often thought: This is article is awesome. In the subsequent edit, the editors-in-chief and others really took it apart. That helped me enormously to improve my writing skills.”

Laura Städtler, editor and podcast host at Finanzfluss, completed her Master’s degree in Economics & Journalism at the IJ in 2024, after previously studying economics in Heidelberg. During her time at the Institute of Journalism, she completed a one-year traineeship in the business section of Süddeutsche Zeitung. She describes her most valuable learning experience as follows: “How newsrooms handle criticism internally and communicate externally is crucial. I find it very rewarding to be in direct exchange with readers and audience.”
