Research and Teaching

Since October 2020, Lena Marie Hufnagel has been working as a Research Assistant at the Chair of Economics and Journalism. In this role, she has been involved in both teaching and research, contributing to various aspects of media analysis and economic journalism.

Mrs. Hufnagel is responsible for the course Economics and Journalism Practice , focusing on both print and online media. Her role involves guiding students through key concepts in these fields, as well as facilitating tutorials to encourage deeper engagement with the material.

Her research interests center on computer-based content analysis and data-driven media analysis with a focus on topics such as media narratives and framing, particularly in the context of Chinese economic news coverage. A key research area is the study of media-based uncertainty perception and framing patterns in the way German media reports on China. Additionally, she explores the Political Economy of East Asia, with a particular focus on China and Taiwan.

Lena Marie Hufnagel is also actively involved in research at the Dortmund Center for Data-based Media Analysis (DoCMA), where she collaborates on projects that apply data-driven approaches to the study of media and communication.
