General Information
Who can apply?
All students holding a Bachelor's degree in Economics or have completed an equivalent degree program, either in Germany or abroad, may apply for the Master’s degree program in Economics and Journalism.
A minimum of 50 credit points (ECTS) in Economis and 10 ECTS in Statistics and Mathematics is required. Furthermore, applicants must have completed their Bachelor's degree with a grade of 2.5 (German standard) or better. Prospective students with a comparable qualification may be admitted as well, if the examination board regonizes their degree as equivalent.
Journalistic sample article
Prior to enrolment, it is necessary for all applicants to submit a journalistic sample article on a current economic policy topic. The topic is announced in "news" as part of our annual EP&J Writing Competition; early submission is recommended. The article must be written in English, should be no longer than 6000 characters and meet professional journalistic standards.
Applicants must upload their article with all other documents, shortlisted candidates are invited to an interview with the examination board. The interview is a precondition for enrollment in the Master's program.
MA program at a glance
Program start: summer and winter semester (April/October)
Standard study period: 4 semesters
Capacity: 20 students per academic year
Curriculum: practical journalistic training, education in journalism studies plus full-fledged economics studies (for more info see study plans)

- BA in Economics (or a comparable degree)
- Sample article
- journalistic traineeship (for Profile 2 only)
Language requirements:
- English level C1 (for Profile 1)
- German level C2 or higher (for Profile 2)
