Internships at international media organisations

On the job training

A key component of the program Economic Policy and Journalism is the integration of two internships at international media organisations. These internships serve as full-time, hands-on training experiences (minimum duration: 6 weeks) and are designed to take place during the course of the entire study period, ideally during the breaks following the second and third semester.

The primary objective is to allow the students to apply the journalistic skills acquired at University in real-world settings. In this manner, students get the opportunity to refine their research and production techniques and to expand their journalistic skill set in areas such as video and audio editing, layout design, etc. In addition, students also gain valuable experience working as part of a team, learning to accept criticism and give constructive feedback, while also getting used to the fast-paced, high-pressure demands typical in the media industry.

Gateway to global media

While students have the flexibility to choose their internship placements, we actively support them in finding the ideal media organisation for their training. Ideally, both internships are conducted at renowned economic policy media outlets.

To facilitate this, the Professorship for Economic Policy Journalism and the Institute of Journalism, respectively, maintain strong partnerships with leading media organisations in Germany and across Europe.

The media organisations that have decided to partner with the Institute of Journalism do not only promote academically sound journalism training in this way. They also have the opportunity to test potential young talent over a longer period of time.
